    Biography

    Language Teaching Officer in Arabic and Year Abroad Coordinator for Arabic at the University of Cambridge

    Farida has demonstrated a passion for Arabic Language teaching and training ever since she started her career.

    Prior to joining the University of Cambridge in 2014, Farida was a Teaching Fellow in Arabic at the University of Edinburgh. Before then, she served as an Arabic Instructor at the American University in Cairo. Farida was a founding member of the Arabic Department at the British  Council in Cairo in 1991 and headed the Arabic department between 2001 and 2003.  She also co-founded ‘Kalimat Language and Cultural Centre’ in Cairo, Egypt in 2003. Throughout her career, she designed and delivered Teacher Training courses and workshops in the field of Language Training and Behavioural Skills. Farida is also active in Arabic language conferences, taking roles in various steering and scientific committees across the UK.

    On the social level, she designed a literacy project to combat illiteracy in Egypt; delivering multiple Arabic Literacy workshops and training volunteers in this aspect. This project took place on the pavements and streets of Cairo https://www.masress.com/en/ahramweekly/29922

    While living in Cairo, she actively participated in campaigns for raising awareness against women's harassment among the Egyptian society.
