Dame Barbara Stocking, the President of Murray Edwards College, has recently returned from a trip to Uganda and Kenya where, together with Helen Pennant from the Cambridge Trust, she was encouraging students to apply to Cambridge - both for places and scholarships, including Gates Scholarships.

During their visit, Barbara and Helen met a number of alumni and heard about their experiences at Cambridge and what they are doing now, and also visited some of the research centres which the University of Cambridge collaborates with – most notably, they visited a maternity hospital in Kampala which delivers 28,000 babies per year.

“It was fantastic to be back in Africa and find out more about the relationship that Cambridge has with this region. I hope we inspired many students to aim high and think of Cambridge,” said Barbara of her visit.
