    13 August 2020

Please read the below in conjunction with the College FAQs for offer holders and the University advice for offer holders.

I’ve got the results I need, what happens now? Do I need to do anything?

Congratulations on getting the grades to meet your offer! You don’t need to do anything – your place is automatically confirmed. The College will contact you and UCAS Track will update so it’s not necessary to call the College. We will be in touch at the end of August or beginning of September with further information about accommodation and arriving at College.

I didn’t get the grades I need to meet my offer. Can I still study at Murray Edwards College?

We don’t normally make concessions for students who have missed the grades they need to meet their offers. However, if you have just missed your offer, please don’t panic. If a decision does not appear on UCAS Track, we will contact you – there might be a place at another College but this all depends on the number of students who have met their offers.

If your results are substantially below your offer, there are options. Hopefully you’ve got the grades you need for your second choice university. If not, you might find a similar course through Clearing.

If I am unhappy with my calculated grades and decide to appeal, how will this affect my admission?

If you are notified that you do not have a place but feel the grades you were awarded do not reflect your true ability, you have the right to make an appeal to your exam board. The government issued further advice on this on 11 August.

If following your appeal you meet the conditions of your offer, the University will admit you. However, depending on when your revised results become known, we may ask you to defer entry until autumn 2021.

If I am unhappy with my calculated grades and decide to sit the exams, how will this affect my admission?

We understand there may be an opportunity to take exams in the autumn, and that you may decide to sit those exams if your calculated grades are lower than you expected. The University of Cambridge will confirm you for entry in October 2021 if the terms of your original offer are met as a result of taking those exams.

Please let the Admissions team know by 31 August if you intend to sit exams in the autumn.

When will I get a reading list?

If applicable, we will send you a reading list in late August to help you prepare for the start of Term.

Do I need to apply for accommodation?

No. The majority of first year students will be allocated rooms in Pearl House. The Tutorial Office will contact you in late August or early September with further details.

Can I defer my entry until autumn 2021?

We do not normally allow students to defer their offer at this late stage. However, we do make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Please email our Admissions team if you would like to defer entry until 2021.

I haven’t received all of my results. What do I do now?

Please don’t panic! We know that sometimes there are processing problems and if you’re missing a particular result, we will already be aware of that. Please contact us as soon as you’ve received your missing result(s).

What is UCAS Adjustment and does it apply to me?

Adjustment is an optional UCAS service for students who meet and exceed the conditions of their firm choice. It gives them an opportunity to reconsider where and what to study, without losing their secured place.

To be considered for Cambridge during Adjustment, you must have also applied and been interviewed during the 2019/20 admissions cycle, meet the relevant participation criteria, have achieved at least the typical offer for the Cambridge course you applied for and exceeded the terms of your firm choice. Anyone who is potentially eligible was informed by Cambridge University earlier in the year. If you did not receive an email, you are not eligible and cannot be considered.

For more information, please visit ‘Adjustment at Cambridge’.

I have a question that isn’t listed above. Who should I get in touch with?

Please take a look at our FAQs for offer holders in the first instance. If your question remains unanswered, please get in touch with our Admissions team.
