Using Gateway funding, I travelled to Italy to visit my pen pal. We visited Milan, exploring the galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Duomo di Milano, blown away by the architecture and high fashion. And Liguria, a stunningly picturesque location. But the highlight of Italy was visiting Lake Maggiore and getting the boat to the Borromean Islands, exploring the narrow streets, botanic gardens and Palaces built by the Borromean family.

We then flew to London, spending the rest of the week visiting museums, including Madame Tussauds. The wax models were so lifelike which made the experience quite eerie! We also went on the London Eye, it was amazing being able to see all the major landmarks and the hustle and bustle of the city.

In all visiting the two cities with my pen pal was an unforgettable experience that explored our different cultures, developed our communication skills and increased our confidence in our ability to be independent. I’m so grateful for Gateway for giving me this opportunity.
