What is the Telephone Campaign?
The Telephone Campaign is an annual campaign run by the Development team. It takes place over two weeks and has two main objectives: to maintain links between current students and alumnae, and to raise money for the College.
Why does the College have a Telephone Campaign?
All alumnae are lifelong members of the College. The Telephone Campaign helps to keep that connection alive and we know many alumnae value the opportunity to speak to current students and find out more about the life of the College today.
True to the founding principles of the College, nearly 70% of our students are from state schools and nearly all of them require some level of additional financial support. In order to make sure none of our students miss out on the opportunities available to them while they're in Cambridge, we must ask alumnae for their support. The Telephone Campaign supports our primary fundraising activity, allowing us to offer increased student financial support to those who need it the most.
How is my gift used by the College?
Every gift we receive makes a difference to the lives of current students. We prioritise 'areas of greatest need' as this allows us to make the greatest impact. However, if you wish to support a particular project or initiative, we are very happy to discuss the options with you.
How do I know if I will be called?
We invite a group of alumnae to participate in calling. They will receive a letter or email from us in the weeks leading up to the campaign.
Where and when does calling take place?
The Telephone Campaign is taking place between 18 September and 2 October. Calling will take place between 18:30 and 21:15 (on weekdays) and between 10:00 and 17:00 (on weekends).
All calls are made by current students and they are ringing from the College.
Are the students paid?
Yes, the students are paid for their work. They also receive a food allowance and we provide them with free accommodation in College during the two-week campaign period. This is not funded from donations received during the Telephone Campaign.
Are the students trained?
Yes, the students received full training before the start of the Telephone Campaign. The students are also supported throughout the campaign by the Development team and our Campaign Consultant.
Shouldn't the students be focusing on their studies?
The Telephone Campaign specifically takes place outside of Full Term in order for it not to interfere with students' studies.
In what other ways can I help the College other than by making a gift?
There are many ways for alumnae to support the College and remain involved with our work. Please speak to our student callers about volunteering, speaking and mentoring opportunities if you would like to find out more.
Can I opt out of being called?
We have given alumnae the opportunity to opt out in advance. However, if you would like to opt out and haven't told us, please contact the Development team at firstname.lastname@example.org or complete the online update form.
