Dorothy Byrne, journalist and President of Murray Edwards College, shares her passion for highlighting neglected stories - and for standing her ground to defend her ideas - in a new BBC film designed to inspire school students.

The former Head of News at Channel 4 explains her choice of journalism as 'a career that would enable me to expose things I really care about', including issues affecting women that are often passed over. She points to the opposition from some male colleagues when she proposed a TV film about the menopause: a programme that went on to win 'massive numbers of viewers'.

Asked by her student interviewers for her top careers advice, she tell them: 'Always listen to other people, look at their point of view. If after doing so you're still sure that you're right, push back, stand your ground, do what you believe in, because that way you will always get the best results and you will always be happy and satisfied in your career.'

The short film is from the BBC Teach series Lessons in Business. From a former CEO of a multi-national company to entrepreneurs working day-to-day in business, the series introduces a variety of leading industry figures as they meet students across the UK to offer inspiration and advice.
