Alice Musabende (2016) has won this year’s Bill Gates Sr. Prize in recognition of outstanding research and social leadership.
Alice is currently studying for a PhD in Politics and International Studies. Her research focuses on the role of global governance in rebuilding countries emerging from conflicts and mass atrocities, with an emphasis on how the African Union negotiates its relationships with external organisations such as the EU and the UN.
Alice, who is a single parent to two young boys, has also been an active participant in the Gates Cambridge community, organising events and support groups for scholars with families.
Nominators also praised her research excellence, her willingness to disseminate her research to a broad audience, and her leadership.
Congratulations Alice! We are very proud of you.
